Michael ‘Brent’ Tolmie is a proven leader with 25+ years of experience working in construction, forestry, and energy, having owned and operated dozens of pieces of forestry and construction equipment, performing on resource and construction projects across Western Canada. Prior to starting his own companies, he worked in full cycle forest management, including planning, layout, road development, full phase harvesting, sorting, brokerage, and silvaculture.

His teams performed $100M+ of contracts on many billion dollar projects, also maintaining a log sorting operation from 2004 – 2017, sorting millions of cubic metres of logs and selling to international and domestic customers across the world. A renewable energy advocate, Brent’s companies worked on more than a dozen run of the river projects for independent power producers, most of which were acquired by Innergex (INE:TSE)

Brent is also a blockchain enthusiast, having mined and traded Ethereum, Bitcoin, Litecoin and others believing in the decentralization of information as a solution to many of the world’s transparency issues. Brent has advised on corporate finance transactions, company and shareholder succession, and transition issues for enterprise clients up to 10 figures. He is currently developing a sustainable residential recreational community and working on scalable solutions to establishing new forests with indigenous partners.

Doug has been with the City of Kelowna since 2004 in varying capacities: from Property Officer to Manager of Real Estate, to Acting General Manager and Divisional Director of Community Planning and Strategic Investment; Doug began his present tenure as City Manager in 2018.

With more than 24 years’ experience in Federal, Provincial, and municipal government, Doug’s vision for the City is one where creativity and innovation thrive, financial accountability is a given, and collaboration is key. He is honored to be the City Manager of the fastest growing city in the country. He believes that it is a pivotal time to lead the municipality, and he is humbled by the passion and talent of the people who work for the organization.

Gavin’s career spans two decades at the intersection of business, public policy, and technology. He has played a key role in building public understanding and support for complex policies and projects across Canada, including affordable housing, energy infrastructure, and tech clusters. Most recently, Gavin served as Chief Strategy Officer for a $5 billion agricultural innovation and food security project in BC. He has also acted as a senior advisor to several other innovation clusters.

Gavin has a BA from UBC and an MBA from the University of Oxford, where he focused on corporate social responsibility. A board member of the Business Council of British Columbia, he has also served in governance roles with organizations like UBC and Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

As a pragmatic leader, she thrives in dynamic environments, balancing strategic vision with hands-on execution to drive growth and operational excellence.

Erik Ellefsen is Director of Networks and Improvement for the School of Education’s Center for School Leadership. He manages the BCSL’s Christian Leadership Transformation Project, a program designed to equip Christian educators across the country by gathering networks of school teams around problems of practice to catalyze school improvement and student flourishing.

Ellefsen has served in education for more than two decades as a teacher, coach, consultant, Dean of Academics at Boston Trinity Academy, Principal at Chicago Christian High School, and Grievance Chairman for the American Federation of Teachers. Most recently, he served at Valley Christian High School in San Jose, CA. He currently serves as Senior Fellow for both the Center for the Advancement of Christian Education and Cardus. He also hosts the Digical Education, a podcast providing engaging conversations with some of the most innovative education leaders, and a leading collaborator and author of the Mindshift project.

Ellefsen is a graduate of Wheaton College, with a BA in Social Science and Illinois teacher accreditation, an MEd in Administration and Leadership from Benedictine University with Illinois administrative credential, and attended Boston University to further his studies in Educational Policy and Organizational Leadership.
